THINGS
I HAVE LEARNED
I’ve learned-
That it is taking me a long time
to become the person I want to be.
I’ve learned-
That you can do something in an instant
that will give you heartache for life.
I’ve learned-
That you should always leave loved ones
with loving words. It may be the last
time you see them.
I’ve learned-
That you can keep going
long after you think you can’t.
I’ve learned-
That we are responsible for what we do,
no matter how we feel.
I’ve learned-
That either you control your attitude
or it controls you.
I’ve learned-
That heroes are the people
who do what has to be done,
when it has to be done,
regardless of the consequences.
I’ve learned-
That money is a lousy way of keeping score.
I’ve learned-
That sometimes the people you expect
to kick you when you’re down will,
and sometimes they will also be the ones
to help you get back up.
I’ve learned-
That sometimes when I am angry
I have the right to be angry,
but that doesn’t give me
the right to be cruel.
I’ve learned-
That true friendship continues to grow,
even over the longest distances.
I’ve learned-
That maturity has more to do with
what types of experiences you’ve had
and what you’ve learned from them
and less to do with how many
birthdays you’ve celebrated.
I’ve learned-
That no matter how good a friend is,
they’re going to hurt you every
once in a while and you must forgive
them for that.
I’ve learned-
That it isn’t always enough to be
forgiven by others. Sometimes you
have to learn to forgive yourself.
I’ve learned-
That no matter how bad your heart is broken
the world doesn’t stop for your grief.
I’ve learned-
That our background and circumstances
may have influenced who we are,
but we are responsible for who we become.
I’ve learned-
That just because two people argue,
it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other.
I’ve learned-
That we don’t have to change friends
if we understand that friends change.
I’ve learned-
That you shouldn’t be eager to find out a
secret. It could change your life forever.
I’ve learned-
That two people can look at the exact same
thing and see something totally different.
I’ve learned-
That your life can be changed in a matter of
minutes by people who don’t even know you.
I’ve learned-
That even when you think you have no more
to give, when a friend cries out to you,
you will find the strength to help.
I’ve learned-
That when you cry out for help,
true friends always come to your support.
I’ve learned-
That credentials on the wall
do not make you a decent human being.
I’ve learned-
That the people you care about most in life
are taken from you too soon.
I’ve learned-
That you can’t make everyone
you meet your friend,
but that you still must try.
I’ve learned-
That when the student is ready,
the teacher will appear.
I’ve learned-
That you must believe in yourself
before others will believe in you.
I’ve learned-
That good things happen to good people.
I’ve learned-
That you have to live today as full as possible,
because tomorrow is too far away,
and yesterday is long gone.
I’ve learned-
That champions are made over a long period
of hard training and not overnight.
I’ve learned-
That the only true champion is
the one who can be a winner even
when they lose.
I’ve learned-
That a good listener is better
than a good talker.
I’ve learned-
That the only good politics are no politics at all.
I’ve learned-
That energy shared is energy gained.
I’ve learned-
That the loving touch of another
human being is, more powerful
than any medicine.
I’ve learned-
That soft can overcome hard.
I’ve learned-
That the larger you think you are,
the harder you will fall.
I’ve learned-
That hate is a form of cancer.

That when you are as far down as
you think you can possibly be,
the only way is up.

That when one door is slammed shut
in your face, another door will open.
I’ve learned-
That fame and fortune are short lived,
and being true to yourself and those
around you is more important.
I’ve learned-
That when you give out love
you get it back in double doses.
I’ve learned-
That a smile takes fewer muscles than a frown.
I’ve learned-
That a bag full of humility is a lighter load,
than a bag full of ego.
I’ve learned-
That there has to be a winner
and a loser, and that it is
all right to, lose once in awhile.
I’ve learned-
That love can move mountains.
I’ve learned-
That everyone needs to dream,
and those dreams do come true.
I’ve learned-
That any great achievement
first starts with a dream.
I’ve learned-
That doing someone a favor doesn’t
require a favor in return. Payment in
full is in the action it self.
I’ve learned-
That by taking care of myself,
I can be better equipped to
take care of others.
I’ve learned-
That even when I am alone,
someone is always watching out for me.

praise a long distance, and a large

That when you think that you are done,
you have just started.

in order to be received.

someone else may know more,
and I must be ready to learn.

That a journey of 1000 miles
starts with the first step.
I’ve learned-
That it is hard to stay on the true path,
and easy to stray.
I’ve learned-
That you never know how much you
miss someone till they are gone forever.
I’ve learned-
That you can’t respect others
till you can respect yourself.
I’ve learned-
That there is no greater honor
than to be looked up to as a role model.
I’ve learned-
That without family and their support,
you are empty and alone.
I’ve learned-
That respect is earned and not demanded.
I’ve learned-
That you can be rich in the heart,
and not rich in the wallet
and still be happy.
I’ve learned-
That knowledge not shared is dead information.
I’ve learned-
That doing something once does not
equal one-thousand times, and
does not make someone an expert.
I’ve learned-
That a day doesn’t go by that
I don’t learn something new.
I’ve learned-
That everyone is equal and that we
all put our pants on one leg at a time.

That no matter what high titles one might have,
you always have to answer to someone.
I’ve learned-
That no job is too big to tackle if you put
your mind and heart into it.
I’ve learned-
That one badly worded criticism can
wipe out dozens of compliments.
I’ve learned-
That no matter how much you think you know
about someone, you can never completely
get to know anyone.
I’ve learned-
That if you make a promise,
you had better keep it.
I’ve learned-
That sticks and stones do break bones,
and oh yes, words can hurt too.

a good thing, and it can also be a bad thing.

than to actually have.

That no matter how much I have learned,
I can always learn more.
