STRESSED? Are you feeling the stress of post holiday activities?
Then you may not be alone. The Dragonfly Tai-Chi/Qigong Clubs are
now offering a healing suggestion with Tai-Chi/Qigong classes. We have
clubs at Miami University in Oxford and at the branch campus in
Middletown, and also at the Quisno Wellness center in Monroe. This
ancient Chinese martial art is a way to achieve balance and deal with
the stresses of modern life. It has been shown as an excellent method
for the prevention and treatment of illness. Enhance your concentration,
focus and inner peace. Melt away job stress, post holiday stress,
everyday stress and for students, exam stress syndrome with
Tai-Chi/Qigong slow movements and deep breathing secrets. Through
Tai-Chi/Qigong classes learn how to unite the body, mind and spirit.
Stress disease is causing 70% of illness today. This is because our generation is facing a tidal wave of change unlike humanity has ever seen. Psychological research shows that change is stressful, even good change. Therefore humanity is unprepared to adapt to this incredible transition. Tai Chi & Qigong's "loosening" qualities for both mind and body enable practitioners to become more fluid and adaptable, not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally Many university medical studies are validating ancient Chinese assertions that Tai Chi & Qigong can boost the immune system; slow aging; improve balance & coordination; reduce chronic pain; improve sleep; reduce anxiety and depression; and positively affect any malady a human being may face. To understand just how profound Tai Chi & Qigong are, consider this. In the US alone we spend about 1 trillion dollars per year on healthcare. If 70% of illness is caused by stress (National Institute of Health), then if the US population began using Tai Chi & Qigong in mass today, we could save $700 billion dollars this year, next year, and all the years after. Our entire national debt could be retired almost immediately, and world debt could be retired in short order as well. Modern times are presenting a psychological challenge. Depression is becoming a global problem according to the UN World Health Organization. Again, the disorienting speed of modern change is behind it. Change is absolutely necessary and usually good. However, our bodies are not prepared for this speed of social evolution. Therefore, again Tai- Chi & Qigong can support our current modern stress crisis, as they can reduce anxiety and depression by elevating chemical levels in the body that affect mood. By doing this without the use of mood altering drugs we can do it more safely and without poisoning either our bodies or our environment. Violence too is affected by stress. Much domestic violence is simply a horrible form of stress management. If someone can't manage their own stress, they often take it out on their spouse or children. Or they may take it out on themselves in the form of drug abuse. US prisons are incarcerating more US citizens than any other nation in the world (per capita) except Russia. The violence and drug abuse behind our swelling prisons can be very positively affected and thereby diminished if we begin to offer mind/body training in our public schools worldwide. Many teachers are even teaching in prison systems now and with great results. Drug prevention and drug rehabilitation programs are using Tai Chi & Qigong as well. Research indicates that lowered stress responses can stimulate creativity and integrative thought patterns. As our world becomes increasingly complex with issues of environment, globalization, shifting economies, technological and information revolutions, the pressure can inhibit our thinking clearly and thereby negatively affect decisions that will profoundly impact our future. By including Tai Chi & Qigong in education, corporate wellness, health care, and through other levels of society we may contribute to clarity of thought that can have a profoundly positive impact on how we proceed into the future as a global community. We are now holding Tai-Chi/Qigong class sign-ups for the next semester. Prof. Michael Steward Sr is teaching the classes. Prof. Steward Sr. is a master instructor and three time World Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee.
