48 Posture Tai-Chi Chuan (Sishibashi Taijiquan)

 

        The 48 Posture Tai-Chi Form, which incorporates many postures predominantly from the Chen Style of Tai-Chi Chuan, and is divided into six sections for convenience and ease of learning. The following is the names of the postures in English and in Chinese.

 

SECTION ONE

 

  1. White Crane Spreads Its Wings (Baihe Liangchi)
  2. Left Brush Knee & Twist Step (Zuo Louxi Aobu)
  3. Left Single Whip (Zuo Danbian)
  4. Left Play The Lute Posture (Zuo Pipashi)
  5. Roll Back & Press Posture (Lujishi)
  6. Left Deflect, Parry & Punch (Zuo Banlanchui)
  7. Left Ward Off, Roll Back, Press & Push (Zuo Penglujian) (Also called Grasping the Sparrow’s Tail Left Side)

  1. Lean On A Diagonal (Xieshenkao)
  2. Fist Under Elbow (Zhoudichui)
  3. Reverse Reeling Forearm (Daojuan Gong) (Also called Repulsing the Monkey)
  4. Turn Body & Thrust Palm (Zhuanshen Tuizhang)
  5. Right Play The Lute Posture (You Pipashi)
  6. Brush Knee & Punch Down (Louxi Caichui)

  2. Slap Foot & Tame The Tiger (Paijiao Fuhu)
  3. Left Diagonal Back Fist (Zuopie Shenchui)
  4. Piercing Fist & Lower Body (Chuanquan Xiashi)
  5. Stand On Single Leg & Prop Up Palm (Right Leg then Left Leg) (Duli Chengzhang)
  6. Right Single Whip (You Danbian)

  2. Left & Right Part the Horse’s Mane (Zuoyou Fenzong)
  3. High Pat Horse (Gaotan Mo)
  4. Right Heel Kick (You Dengjiao)
  5. Strike Ears With Both Fists (Shuangfeng Guaner)
  6. Left Heel Kick (Zuo Dengjiao)
  7. Cover Hand & Strike With Fist (Yanshou Liaoquan) (Also called the Cannon Ball Fist)
  8. Needle At The Sea Bottom (Haidizhen)
  9. Fan Through The Back (Shan Tong Bei)

  7. Left & Right Shuttle Back & Forth (Zuoyou Chuansuo)
